Id Requirements for Some First Time Voters
There are new one time only identification requirements for voters who:
- registered to vote after January 1, 2003,
- registered by mail and did not send a copy of an acceptable at the time they registered.
- And, have not voted in a federal races before. Federal races are those elections for seats in the US House of Representative, the US senate and for President of the United States.
Acceptable forms if identification are a current:
- and valid photo identification card,
- a utility bill
- a bank statement
- a pay check
- a government check, or
- another government document.
These documents must be current documents showing the voter’s name and address: Iowa Code 48A.8
(as amended by Iowa Legis. S.F. 2269 (2004)).
A person who is required to present identification when casting a ballot in person, but does not present such information, shall be permitted to vote by provisional ballot. Iowa Code § 48A.8 (as amended by Iowa Legis. S.F. 2269 (2004).
